Slack – Review
To start with, Slack is neither the oldest messaging application in the market, nor the platform that focuses on personal use, but then why is it so popular.
What is Slack
In order to answer that question, I will explain the main purpose of Slack. It is a messaging platform that is available on web, Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iOS. However, unlike other messaging platforms, it is for professional use. You can either create your own team or join to other teams.
Besides of allowing users to be participate in more than one team, you can also be part of channels. Let’s say you work in an IT company which has different departments. Channels could be these departments or even the projects that you working on. Channels can be either public or private, but is definitely useful if you working in a big company.
However, you can also use Slack to talk with specific persons in your team as if you are using a normal messaging applications.
Even though Slack is free, there are two paid options including standard and plus options. However, in the future, Slack will also add the enterprise package for large companies. Standard option costs $6.67 per month and gives you the ability to do a group call and includes better search features. Plus option, on the other hand, costs $12.50 and mostly focuses on better support and reliability.
Slack is widely known for its market. Even though you can download apps from Google Play or App Store to use with FaceBook Messenger, there is an app store within the Slack. However, this app store can only be accessed from the web version. Besides of downloading apps, you can also download bots, which are like personal assistance. You can download bots for different purposes such as to track your website’s analytics or to see the latest projects that you are working on.
Why You Should Use Should Slack
Even if you use the free version, it allows better inter-communication, and allows your employees to connect with each other better than ever.
Slack focuses on professional use, but is good at it with features such as channels, and bots. Even if you use the free option, still it is very stable and fast. As a result, you should use the Slack if you have a company.
