AMD announced RX 460 & 470; still, no competitor for GTX 1080

This year, AMD learned its lesson. They understood that it is pointless for them to compete with Nvidia in terms of high-end graphics cards. As a result, by introducing RX480, they leave that market to Nvidia and stayed in low &  mid-end graphic card market. With newly announced RX 460 and RX 470, they continue in the same road.

AMD RX470

AMD RX 470 is RX480’s little brother with crippled features. 470 uses the Polaris architecture with total of 32 compute unites and 2048 stream processors ( compared to 480’s 36 compute unites and 2304 processors ). TFLOPS is also decreased on the 470 to 4.9 from 480’s 5.8.

However, the 470 has a memory as much as 480’s base model: 4GB GGDR5 memory but at the speed of 6.6gbps and 256-bit memory interface.

AMD RX460

RX 460, on the other hand, is smaller in terms of size but also weaker in terms of hardware. Based on Polaris 11 architecture ( 470 uses Polaris 10 ), it includes 14 compute unites along side with 896 stream processors. Nevertheless, base clock speed is down to 1090MHz and boost clock speed to 1200 MHz as well. Having 2.2 TFLOPS, 460 comes in either 2GB or 4GB of memory with 128-bit interface.
