BrightTitan Cast 19: Pokemon Go

It would be fair to say that this week was all about Pokemon Go. However, not all the news was positive.

Motorola introduced new low-end phone

Motorola ( I mean Lenovo ) introduced a new low-end phone called Moto E3.

Moto E3

As it does not aim to be the most powerful phone, it has a 5-inch HD display powered by Quad-core processor. However, Lenovo did not say the model of the processor which means do not have high expectations. Anyway, its screen also has a protection called “built-in smudge-resistant screen protector”. Even though it is not a Gorilla Glass, according to Lenovo, it works well enough. Again, probably, you shouldn’t have high exceptions from the screen either. At least, Moto E3 comes with Android 6 Marshmallow and it will be updated to Android N sometime after the official release of N.

However, the privacy issue with PokemonGo has been solved

Pokemon Go had a stupid security issue which gave the game full-access to your Google account ( if you choose to login with Google ). However, it was a serious issue that needed to be done. At least, Nintendo acted quick and fixed the issue with the latest update.

Furthermore, the update fixes some bugs and you can read the changeling below;

  • Trainers do not to have to enter their username and password repeatedly after a force log out
  • Added stability to Pokémon Trainer Club account log-in process
  • Resolved issues causing crashes
  • Fixed Google account scope

There was a stupid ( but serious ) privacy issue with PokemonGo

Pokemon Go is one of the most of popular games recently. However, it is also the one which caused a lot of trouble. The examples go from a teen stumbled on a dead body to thieves finding their next victims using the game. Nevertheless, here is yet another trouble but about the software.

If you login to Pokemon Go, then you might give the game a full access to your google account. This means the game not only can see your account details but also your gmails. You can ask why the hell does it need to see my emails. The answer is simple. It does not have to. However, the game is not developed well enough. I am sorry to say that but it is true. Not only the game has a potential to compromise your real life location to other people, but also to leak your Google data.

Furthermore, the worst part is that the game can also change your Google Data because it has a full access.

When you grant full account access, the application can see and modify nearly all information in your Google Account (but it can’t change your password, delete your account, or pay with Google Wallet on your behalf).

Certain Google applications may be listed under full account access. For example, you might see that the Google Maps application you downloaded for your iPhone has full account access.

This “Full account access” privilege should only be granted to applications you fully trust, and which are installed on your personal computer, phone, or tablet.

If you’ve granted full account access to an app you don’t trust or recognize, we recommend that you revoke this permission by clicking the Revoke access button.

Even though fans would be angry to me, still I will say it. In my opinion, Pokemon Go is not a good game in terms of software quality.

Robbers are using PokemonGo to find their victims

PokemonGo is out. However, the game literary forces you to go outside instead of make you sit and look at the screen for hours. This means you have to be careful because that is the real world and no, your Pokemon cannot protect you.

As a result, in the last few days, we have seen different accidents. For example, teen stumbled on a dead body while playing the game. Other example would be people who were shot at while playing Pokemon Go. However, this time, this is not an accident.

According to O’Fallon Police Department, robbers added a bacon to a PokeStop. This means they added a real-world location to the game ( which is not an illegal ) where some Pokemon are supposedly located. As a result, victims went to that location because the game said that they needed to go there. However, Robbers were waiting for  them; not Pokemon.

So far, only few teens are robbed. However, it is dangerous because you don’t know what waits you in the PokeStop. Some times, there are actually nice people there, and other times, there are people with guns ( and desire to kill ) waits you there.

Yes, Nvidia 1060 is faster than RX480

This year, AMD chose to introduce mid-end graphic card, RX480, allowing NVDIA to say that they have the fastest graphic cards. As a result, AMD made everyone happy by indicating that RX480 is as fast as GTX970 but costs only $200. It was a good news because not everyone is able to spend about thousand dollar to a single graphic card. However, the problem was that RX480’s test results were not as high as expected and it disappointed a lot of people but still, it was a good card for $200 and it had not competitor until last week. Recently, Nvidia dropped another bomb by introducing 1060 which is more power efficient 980 based on PASCAL that only costs $250.

The specs of the 1060 was amazing but thanks to AMD, I learned not to expect too much from the introductions. However, it looks like 1060 really is faster than RX480 anyway.

In a leaked test, you can see how RX480, 960 and 1060 do in different games. Even though this test proves that 1060 is better than RX480 in terms of gaming performance, still it would be better if the test also included 980.

Anyway, you can see the test results below.

SnapDragon 821 is here

Technology is evolving fast. Today, Qualcomm introduced 821 which is basically a modified 820. However, this still means that your 5 month $700 phone is old. In other words, S7 Edge, HTC 10 and LG G5 is not the “newest” phones at all.

Anyway, back to the SnapDragon 821, it is based on the same architecture with 820. However, according to Qualcomm, the new 821 is 10% percent faster.

Furthermore, 821 will be used by mobile devices starting from the second half of the year. This might be the CPU that will power the upcoming Note 7. Who knows?

Here is the code that took Apollo 11 to the moon

Apollo 11 is considered as one of the most important space missions in the world. It was the first spaceflight that landed humans on the Moon. However, there was a computer responsibly for the entire flight and now, you can see its codes in the GitHub.

The interesting part of the code is that you can find some jokes. For example, there is a file called “BURN_BABY_BURN–MASTER_IGNITION_ROUTINE.agc”.

If you want to see the code, you can find it here ( maybe, you made your own rocket but you just need a software to handle things. Who knows? )
