Verizon bought Yahoo

Verizon just agreed to acquire Yahoo for $4.8 billion. After the indicated money will be payed in all-cash to Yahoo (and also after few other financial steps), Yahoo will be controlled under Verizon and will be co-operated with AOL which is also owned by Verizon.

Since February, Yahoo was in sale and according to Yahoo Finance, there were about as much as 40 bidders including “AT&T; Quicken Loans founder Dan Gilbert with financial backing from Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett; and private equity firms TPG and Vector Capital Management”. However, Verizon won the bid and on Monday, officially announced that they will acquire Yahoo.

However, this deal doesn’t include every service and shares of Yahoo. While Verizon will be able to control Yahoo search, email, advertising products, and the media business which are described as “Yahoo Core”, the shares of Yahoo in Chinese market will not be included in the deal and will continue to held by a new company that will be created by Yahoo itself. Furthermore, the patents are not included to the deal either. Even though the patents trademarked by Yahoo will be sold in another deal, the buyer will not be Verizon for the patents.

Current CEO of Yahoo, Marissa Mayer, will ( probably ) not continue to work in Yahoo.  The company formed by the integration of Yahoo and AOL will be controlled under the presidency of Marni Walden, executive vice president of Verizon  and president of Product Innovation and New Businesses.

We will see if Verizon can save Yahoo from the bad situation that it is in right now.

Nvidia announced P5000 & P6000

This year, Nvidia just focusing on high-end cards. If you don’t count the Nvidia 1060, we have seen Nvidia 1070, 1080 and then Titan X. However, 10 series were great for gamers and Titan X for professionals. But what if you are 3D rendering and need even more power? Nvidia has also an answer for you.

Nvidia Quadro

New Quadro cards are Nvidia’s best graphics ( and most expensive PASCAL based cards ) with a lot of power that will be handy if you work with rendering or processing many images.

There are two cards in the QUADRO family; P5000 and P6000. Even though 5000 is less powerful than the 6000, still it is way more powerful than the other cards. You can see their specs below.

Here is the Titan X

As excepted, Nvidia introduced GP102 based graphic card but the new card is called as Titan X; not GTX1080 TI.

Nvidia Titan X

New Nvidia Titan X ( which does not have  the GTX part in its name ) is placed right above the 1080 as Titan X not only offers the best performance for gamers but also for artifical intelligence.

Compared to GTX1080, Titan X has more CUDA cores ( 3584 vs 2560 ) as well as more TFLOPS ( 11 compared to 9 ). However, Titan X is similar to 1080 in same ways though. For example, it uses the angular design that we have seen on 10 series cards and also the fact that both of them use PASCAL.

Other specifications of the graphic card is the base clock speed of 1417 MHz and boost clock speed of 1531 MHz. Thus, 12GB GDDR5X ( with memory speed of 10Gbps ) and 384-bit wide memory interface with  480 GB/s memory bandwidth are other specs that proves the real power of this monster.

In terms of connectivity, the card comes with DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.0b, and Dual-Link DVI. Also, you would get a support for SLI and the good news is that Titan X’s SLI aspect is not limited to 2 cards. You can pair up to 4 Titan X cards.

Of course, let’s not use its power needs. Titan X has a TDP of 250W and takes its power from a 1x 8-pin and 1x 6-pin connector.

Nvidia Titan X is more powerful than GTX1080 in many ways and also more expensive. Being only sold in Nvidia’s own website, it costs $1200.

AMD introduced RX470 & 480

This year, AMD learned its lesson. They understood that it is pointless for them to compete with Nvidia in terms of high-end graphics cards. As a result, by introducing RX480, they leave that market to Nvidia and stayed in low &  mid-end graphic card market. With newly announced RX 460 and RX 470, they continue in the same road.

AMD RX470

AMD RX 470 is RX480’s little brother with crippled features. 470 uses the Polaris architecture with total of 32 compute unites and 2048 stream processors ( compared to 480’s 36 compute unites and 2304 processors ). TFLOPS is also decreased on the 470 to 4.9 from 480’s 5.8.

However, the 470 has a memory as much as 480’s base model: 4GB GGDR5 memory but at the speed of 6.6gbps and 256-bit memory interface.

AMD RX460

RX 460, on the other hand, is smaller in terms of size but also weaker in terms of hardware. Based on Polaris 11 architecture ( 470 uses Polaris 10 ), it includes 14 compute unites along side with 896 stream processors. Nevertheless, base clock speed is down to 1090MHz and boost clock speed to 1200 MHz as well. Having 2.2 TFLOPS, 460 comes in either 2GB or 4GB of memory with 128-bit interface.
