Uber replaced taxi drivers in the past and now, replacing its own drivers

Taxi drivers do not have the love that we have towards Uber. In the past, taxis didn’t have any competitors at all. However with Uber, everybody could be a driver and carry people from a to b.

This week, Uber is doing the same thing for its own drivers; replacing them with new ones. However, there is something weird. New drivers are not human. Wait what?

Uber just announced that they will start using autonomous vehicles soon.

Even though it has good points, it brings the question whether are we ready for to be driven by robots or not. Then, the second question is if the robots are ready to drive us.

Throughout the last several years, there were a lot of attempts to make driverless vehicles but it couldn’t reach to a point where it is ready to take the all of the control. Even though some of you will say that Google had successful tests, we are talking about something big. In this case, the car will drive itself without the surveillance of the engineers. It will be only you and the vehicle itself.

However, it will definitely something to improve the ai and it would be interesting to see autonomous taxis.

Mercedes-Maybach 6 Coupe is a retro car from the future

New Mercedes-Maybach 6 Coupe is the proof how maybach cars should have been. Unlike the current s600 maybach, 6 Coupe is a real maybach. It is longer than you will ever need. It is more luxurious than you can ever imagine.

Mercedes-Maybach 6 Coupe

Mercedes-Maybach 6 Coupe is 18 feet ( 6 meter ) long. However, it is not a sedan. It is a coupe and probably the longest coupe in the world.

Also, it is probably one of the best answers to Tesla. It has an electric motor with 738 horse power with range more than 200 miles. Thus, the car can speed up to 62 mph ( 100 km ) under 4 seconds. Even though the car could have been faster, its purpose is not speed. Like the Rolls & Royce vehicles, it is all about luxury.

Inside, there are touch screens and augmented glasses. Also, vehicle is able to sense its passengers and even their outfits in order to adjust the features including lighting and massaging.

What is worth mentioning can be the fact that the car is probably meant to be driven because Mercedes said nothing about autonomous driving.

The sad thing about the car is that it is just a concept. In other words, even if you are ready to spend millions of dollars to a car, still you cannot buy Mercedes-Maybach 6 Coupe yet.

Meizu Mix is a smartwatch that is not smart at all

Meizu just announced its first smartwatch, Meizu Mix. However, there is one problem. Meizu Mix is not a smart at all.

Meizu Mix

The watch does not have a touchscreen nor does it have any sensors. It cannot even track your activities. The only smartwatch related feature is the notification LED with vibration feature.

42MM Meizu Mix has a 316L steel case featuring a sapphire glass. Inside the glass, there is a real watch face.

As there is literally nothing that uses too much battery, the watch’s battery can last for 460 days. However, it is not clear how you charge the watch.

Meizu Mix has three straps including Denim, Leather and Steel. The cheapest model ( which has a Denim strap ) costs CNY 1,000 ( respectively $150 ) and the most expensive one has a price tag of CNY 1,500 ( abut $220 ). The problem with Meizu Mix is that for $200, you can get a real smartwatch or a better classical watch.

Gamescom 2016

Games & Extensions

EA

  • Battlefield 1

Introduced in E3 2016, EA also exhibited upcoming BattleField 1 in Gamescom. Unlike the previous games, BT 1 takes place during World War 1. This means instead of using F16s and mini guns, you will be fighting on horses, in old planes and with guns from WW1.

Even though not everybody will appreciate old guns and vehicles, still the game gets too much attention in game shows.

You can play it on October 21, 2016.

  • Titanfall 2

Coming on October 28, Titanfall 2 will support VR even on the consoles. This raises some questions though. Even though Sony already announced PS VR for PS4, there is no Xbox One VR yet.

  • Fifa 17

A new sequel of Fifa. Now, it includes more soccer teams, comes with better graphics as well as with improved physics. Fifa 17 will be launched on September 27.

  • Madden NFL 17

Without any doubt, Madden is one the best American Football games and it just got better. Most obvious ( and important ) change is that now, you can move more freely in the field thanks to its elevated game mechanics. It’s release date  is 23th of August 2016.

  • NHL 17

It is yet another sport game from EA. New version of the series is more realistic compared to the previous ones. According to EA, it is more fun as well. We will see if that is true when the game will come at September 13 for the current consoles.

  • Star wars

A Rouge One themed VR titled star wars game. Basically, you ride an X-Wing in VR and we hope that it won’t disappoint us like Battlefront.

Activision

  • Destiny: Rise of Iron DLC

Rise of the Iron DLC is Activision’s yet another attempt to increase the sizes of Destiny’s world. If you want to watch the show, you can follow Activision on Twitch.

Anyway, back to the DLC, it will bring new modes, weapons and armors to Destiny.

  • Call of Duty Infinite Warfare

Activision also showed Call of Duty’s newest game, Infinite Warfare, in the show. Furthermore, they announced the zombi mode.

Konami

  • Metal Gear Survive

New Metal Gear game is a 4-player coup where you try to kill zombies and survive ( as the name itself suggests ) with your friends. Metal Gear Survive will be released on 2017 and it will cost about $33 as it won’t be a “full price game”.

Hardware

  • Microsoft Xbox One S

Although it is not a new hardware, Microsoft had Xbox One S in Gamescom. For the ones who don’t know about Xbox One S, it is the new white Xbox One. It is about 40% smaller and a little bit faster compared to the Xbox One. However, this has no impact on the games yet. Still, it does not support 4K ( at least for the games ).

  • Oculus Touch

Oculus announced new touch sensitive controllers for its VR headset, Oculus Rift. It is being supported by Oculus games and will be released at the end of 2016.

  • New HP Gaming PCs

HP was also in the gamescom and they extended the Omen series. Until now, there was only one laptop in HP’s gaming line ( which was not really good, by the way ). However, now, Omen series also includes a desktop PC.

HP Omen X is not a cheap desktop though. It costs $1,600 for the base model and $599 price tag makes its chassis, one of the most expensive one. You have a list of graphics cards in Omen X from RX480 to Nvidia 1080.

  • No PS4 Neo, Project Scorpio or Nintendo NX

Although there are some consoles and Windows PCs in gamescom, we will not see any of the next generation consoles. While Sony will introduce 4k-ready PS4 Neo as soon as next month, you will have to wait for a year to see the Project Scorpio. By the way, there is no solid news about Nintendo NX.

Nvidia GeForce GTX 10 graphics cards comes to laptops

In the past, we had Nvidia’s desktop graphic cards and mobile ones. However, there was a performance difference between them. With Nvidia GTX980, it was slightly different. Even though still 980M did not give a performance like its desktop version, the performance gap was not as much as the ones in the past.

This week, Nvidia announced that 10 series graphic cards are coming to laptops. However, the laptop versions are not different from the desktop ones anymore. In other words, Nvidia successfully put new GeForce cards to laptops without effecting their performance in a bad way.

On top of the series, there lies GTX 1080. Based on Pascal ( like any other 10 graphic cards ), 1080 has 2,560 CUDA at a clock speed of 1733Mhz. Second most powerful one is 1070 which has slightly less CUDA cores ( 2,048 ) and clock speed ( 1645Mhz ). Slowest one is Nvidia GTX1060 with 1,280 CUDA cores at 1670Mhz.

In Nvidia’s own tests, new desktop level graphic cards were 150 times more powerful than the 9 series Mobile cards.

With this improvement, finally, laptops can have the same performance as the desktops ( although still other hardware features are better on desktops ). It also means that we will soon see more VR-ready laptops.

You can expect to see all kinds of crazy laptops soon including SLI notebooks with water cooling.

Google Duo is Out

During the I/O 2016, Google announced two new communication apps called Duo and Allo.

Launched simultaneously, Duo is the first one to go live. Google Duo allows you to make one-to-one video chats with other ones who also have the same app. According to Google, the selling point of the app is a future called Knock Knock. It shows the video of a caller before answering the call.

However, the problem is that Google is late. There are already plenty of video calling apps including FaceBook Messenger, Skype and even Google’s own Hangouts. Even though Google says that Duo is designed to be as fast and stable as possibly, other ones were in the market for years. We will see if Duo can beat other services.

You can find the app on AppStore as well as on Google Play. However, if it is not available in your country yet, you need to wait for sometime.

There will be 10.5-inch iPad Pro in 2017

Ming-Chi Kuo is one of the best Apple analyst and he predicts that Apple will make changes in iPad line up next year. There would be 12.9-inch iPad Pro 2, 10.5-inch iPad Pro and a new cheap 9.7-inch iPad. Furthermore, in 2018, he expects revolutionary changes with iPads including flexible AMOLED displays.

“We expect three new iPads (12.9″ iPad Pro 2, new size 10.5″ iPad Pro & low-cost 9.7″ iPad) to be launched in 2017, though this may not drive shipment growth amid structural headwinds; 2017F shipments to fall 10-20% YoY. If the iPad comes in a larger size, such as a 10.5″ model, we believe it will be helpful to bid for tenders within the commercial and education markets.

As a result, we expect Apple to launch a 10.5″ iPad Pro in 2017. In addition, we estimate the 12.9″ iPad Pro 2 and 10.5″ iPad Pro will adopt the A10X processor, with TSMC being the sole supplier using 10nm process technology. The low-cost 9.7″ model may adopt the A9X processor, which is also exclusively supplied by TSMC.”

The interesting part of the analysis is that iPad Mini is not mentioned. The reason can be either there is not enough information or it would be the end of the Mini line. However, it is actually understandable if Apple decides to remove the 7.9-inch iPads because of the popularity of phablets.

Karma still tries to beat Tesla

Some of you may heard the company Karma. It was created and named by Henrik Fisker, the legendary Aston Martin designer. The company’s purpose was to make hybrid luxury cars. However, they failed so hard. Karma was not earning enough money and was about to bankrupt although they received funds from different sources. Nevertheless, it’s only automobile, Fisker Karma, did not succeed. Sold at $100.000 ( which is $560.000 less than its real value ) had technical problems. Thus, in 2008, Henrik Fisker with 75% of Karma’s employees left and since then, they didn’t introduce any car until today.

Even though we cannot call it as an “full introduction,” Karma showed its new vehicle, Karma Revero.  However, except the photos and the countdown, we have no information about the vehicle at all. It supposed to replace the first model though.

Anyway, back to the photos, Revero looks like facelifted version of Fisker Karma. It has the same basic design with the same solar panel on the top although there are small changes such as the logo.

Apple will not introduce MacBook Pro on September

This year, Apple already updated MacBook and MacBook Air but not the MacBook Pro. In other words, current MacBook Pro series is not updated for almost 450 days and it looks like it will not be updated soon.

If you follow the technology news lately, then you may be aware that we expect Apple to held an event on September 7. Without any doubt, we will see the next generation iPhones but not the 2016 MacBook Pro.

Then the question is when Apple will introduce the new model? Unfortunately, there is no detail about its release date. Honestly, I suspect that Apple will skip the 2016 Pro model and will introduce the new one in 2017.

However, the good news is that MacBook Pro 2016 is coming with OLED TouchBar and TouchID after all. Also, of course, it will have new slimmer design with 4 USB Type-Cs.
