BrightTitan Cast 23: WhatsApp & Facebook

WhatsApp will share your phone number with Facebook but you can stop it

We use Facebook everyday and there is no doubt about it. However, Facebook is annoying and cares more about earning money more than user happiness. That is why everybody was worried when Facebook bought WhatsApp in 2014. And here comes the bad surprise.

WhatsApp will share your phone number with Facebook. Even though the “purpose” of this sharing is to give users “better friend suggestions”, we all know that is not the real reason. This way, Facebook is learning more about you so they can give ( or sell ) this information to ad networks. As a result, the ads you will be shown are more personal to get your attention. Even though WhatsApp said that they will not give your number to advertisers, we are talking about Facebook which is ready to do anything to earn more money.

However, there is actually a way to stop WhatsApp to give your number to Facebook if you do not trust them ( so you should do this ). There are two ways. First one can only be done before accepting the terms of service. Instead of saying accept, you need to click on the read more and then deselect “Share my WhatsApp account information with Facebook…” option. Second one is through the settings. If you are using the latest version, you can find the same option under account. But we fast because you only have 30 days to do this.

Tesla Model S now speeds up to 60mph as quick as LaFerrari

Tesla Model S is a fast car. The highest model, P90D, could speed up to 60 mph ( 100 km ) in under 3 seconds ( 2.9 sec ). However, for Tesla, it was not enough.

They announced new 100kWH battery for Model S and X. The new option not only extends their range but make them as quick as super cars.

New Tesla Model S P100D can reach to 60 mph only in 2.5 seconds. In order for you to see how fast it is, I am going to compare it with super cars. LaFerrari can do that in 2.4 seconds. Yes, it is 0.1 second quicker ,but LaFerrari is a super car. Furthermore, if you are not into speeding and just want to travel from one city to another, new p100D can travel for 315 miles compared to the previous model’s 294 miles range.

Tesla Model X, on the other hand, also gets the same battery pack. Even though Model X is not as fast as Model S, still, it reaches to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds.

However, cool things does not come for a cheap price. Tesla Model S P100D will start at $134,500 which is $9,500 more than P90D. Model X with the same configuration costs $135,500.

Also, you can replace your P90D’s battery with the new one. If you just ordered P90D but not received your vehicle yet, then you can pay $10,000 to get the new battery option. However, if you are an owner of P90D, you need to pay $20,000.

Sony might release PS4 Slim alongside with the NEO

Sony has a playstation event on September 7 and it looks like there will be two new PS4s.

First one is the more powerful PS4 Neo which supposedly be able to handle 4K games with its more powerful hardware. The second one is something we didn’t expect to see. It is the PS4 Slim.

The new leaks show everything about it from its design to its box. As you can see, it is a little bit smaller  and thinner than the current PS4. However, it probably uses the same hardware with the PS4 as there is no details about more powerful specs. Also, as it comes with 500 GB of storage, it is definitely not a PS4 Neo.

The other difference between the slim model and the normal model is the new controller. It is basically the same controller with a new bright black and a new light. The light supposedly lightens when you turn on the console. However, it is not clear if there is another function of the light or of the controller.

Even though at first, the leaks did not sound legitimate, now after tons of photos and even videos, we can say that Sony PS4 Slim is coming.

Say goodbye to the Chrome Apps

Google just announced that they will stop supporting Chrome apps on every platform except Chrome OS. However, these apps will not be removed instantly.

At the end of this year, new Chrome Apps will be only available on Chrome OS. But Mac and Windows users will still be able to use the existing apps and get updates. Then, in the middle of 2017, you will not see the apps section of Chrome and in 2018, the Chrome Apps on Mac, Windows and Linux will be gone forever.

Even though it looks like Google is deactivating an important feature, literally nobody is using those apps regularly. According to Google, most of the apps provides better experience on their website and it is true. In the past, it was limited what you could do on a website but now, websites are able to send notifications or to connect to the hardware.

When the Chrome Apps will be gone, the extensions will be even more important.
