Nvidia GeForce GTX 10 graphics cards comes to laptops

In the past, we had Nvidia’s desktop graphic cards and mobile ones. However, there was a performance difference between them. With Nvidia GTX980, it was slightly different. Even though still 980M did not give a performance like its desktop version, the performance gap was not as much as the ones in the past.

Today, Nvidia announced that 10 series graphic cards are coming to laptops. However, the laptop versions are not different from the desktop ones anymore. In other words, Nvidia successfully put new GeForce cards to laptops without effecting their performance in a bad way.

On top of the series, there lies GTX 1080. Based on Pascal ( like any other 10 graphic cards ), 1080 has 2,560 CUDA at a clock speed of 1733Mhz. Second most powerful one is 1070 which has slightly less CUDA cores ( 2,048 ) and clock speed ( 1645Mhz ). Slowest one is Nvidia GTX1060 with 1,280 CUDA cores at 1670Mhz.

In Nvidia’s own tests, new desktop level graphic cards were 150 times more powerful than the 9 series Mobile cards.

With this improvement, finally, laptops can have the same performance as the desktops ( although still other hardware features are better on desktops ). It also means that we will soon see more VR-ready laptops.

You can expect to see all kinds of crazy laptops soon including SLI notebooks with water cooling.
