BrightTitan Cast 26: iOS 10
Welcome to the BrightTitan Cast where we talk and comment about each week’s most important news. Anyway, let’s start
This week, there were few news at all and most of them were about Apple-related. To start with, Apple released iOS 10, newest mobile operating system for iPhones, iPads and the latest iPod Touch.
The biggest change with the new update is how it changes the way you use your iPhone. Normally, you swipe from left to right to unlock your Apple device but now, you can’t do that. When you swipe from left, you will see a widget panel where you can see weather or even see where you parked your car. In order to unlock your device though, you need to press to the home button even if you have TouchID. Even though Apple changed the traditional method of unlocking iPhone, this makes the lock screen a lot useful. Besides the new widgets on the lock screen, you also have new abilities for the notifications. For example, when you receive a text message, you no longer need to unlock your device to write a reply. You can just click on the notification and then, write your reply to the pop-up.
Despite the lock screen, other applicants except iMessage are same in terms of how they work although there are some design tweaks. iMessage though looks same but has new features. With iOS 10, you can draw things and then send them; create animated messages and even download applications for the iMessage. Those apps are different than the regular apps but similar to the ones on the FaceBook Messenger. With imessage though, the apps are mostly about new stickers and new animations. In other words, iMessage is probably the most useful stock messaging app on a mobile phone.
Siri is also a lot smarter. Now, it can get help from third-party apps. This means you can use Siri to order an Uber car. This shows the importance of third-party apps. Why Alexa is so useful? Because it can communicate with non-Amazon services and apps. Now, Siri can also do the same thing but maybe even better.
Anyway, iOS 10 is available on iPhone 5 or higher; iPad Mini 2 or higher; iPad 4 or higher, and lastly, the latest iPod Touch.
There is also a new update for Apple Watch named watchOS 3. Like the iOS 10, watchOS 3 changes the way you use your watch. And this is something good for the Apple Watch which originally came with a complicated operating system. With watchOS 3, it is easier but more importantly, it is faster.
Finally, a device which tried to help you do certain activities ( such as viewing notifications ) is faster. And I am not talking about the new Apple Watch Series 2 which has a new chipset. I am talking about the original one which not only had a buggy software but crappy hardware. Unless you upgrade to Series 2, you still have a hardware which is simply not as powerful as it should be. However, at least, the software is better.
There is also a new update for 4th generation Apple TV which is called as tvOS 10. It is faster like the watchOS 3 and iOS 10, more stable and comes with improved Siri. But here comes the best thing. Now, there is a dark mode. However, I feel like the dark mode is not as good as the one on the macOS, at least yet.
Now, here is the automobile news of the week.
This week, Audi introduced the new A5 Sportback as well as S5 with a new design debut the upcoming Paris Auto Show.

The new A5 Sportback carries the design language that we have seen on the latest A5 Coupe and A4 Sedan. This means the vehicle has sharp lines with more aggressive face.

Audi also made changes inside the car. Previously, Audi failed to deliver the latest technologies and fall back behind its competitors. Now, with futuristic interior, Audi is clearly beyond its competitors. The new interior includes the Audi’s virtual cockpit that is present on sport cars such as R8 or TT and on family cars such as the A4 and the new A5 Sportback. New models also come with Audi’s latest infotainment system and if you don’t care about spending some extra money, then you can also get wireless charging for your phone and even Wi-fi.
Under the hood of 2017 Audi A5 Sportback, you will see the same engine from the new A5 Coupe. It is a 2.0-liter TFSI four-cylinder engine which is able to make 252 horsepower at 5,000 to 6,000 rpm. The engine also produces 273 pound-feet of torque between 1,600 and 4,500 rpm. Power is delivered to the front wheels ( unless you buy the Quattro all-wheel drive system )by a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
On the other hand, S5, which is more sporty, comes with Turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine which makes 354 horsepower and 368 pound-feet of torque. All of this power allows you to reach at 60 mph in 4.7 seconds.
Coming Europe earlier next year, it is not known when the car will become available in the US market but keep in mind, Audi officials said that the car was designed with the U.S. market in mind.
And that was the last news that we had for this week. Stay tuned and see you on the next episode.
