LG V20 is the first phone to have Nougat out of box
LG V20 is just introduced. It is the successor of last year’s V10 which had a unique second display. V20 continues to have the the advantages of the last generation such as a good camera and strong body but at the same time, does not have the disadvantages of V10 like the bad built quality.
LG V20 actually looks more like a G5 than V10. The plastic material has been replaced by smooth metal. There is a power button with finger print sensor where your finger normally rests when you are holding your phone. Also, the sensors and cameras ( yes, multiple ) on the back are placed in a shape like the G5.
The problem is that still, we cannot say V20 has a amazing design and build quality like its competitors. For example, the phone is not fully metal. The top and bottom parts are silicon polycarbonate. This decision may disappoint users especially after seeing the awful build quality that all of the people criticize on G5.
Nevertheless, the silicon parts makes the phone shock resistance ( rated MIL-STD 810G ) but we don’t have those stainless steel side rails from the V10.
Also, you are still able to remove the battery but by opening the back. In other words, modularity is gone.
Despite the major changes in the design, V20 continues to share common advantages with V10. For example, the second display above the main 5.7-inch QHD IPS LCD screen is here. But this time, it is brighter and has more contrast. However, the things that you can do with the second display haven’t changed with the second generation. For instance, the phone can show app shortcuts and notifications there.
Under the metal body, there are hardware features that you will expect from a flagship phone in 2016. V20 is powered by SnapDragon 820 and includes 4GB of RAM along side with 64GB. It is good to see that each day more and more manufacturers are increasing the base storage limit.
The other unique point of the V20 is the audio features as it comes with 32-bit quad DAC, a feature that will greatly increase the quality that you can get when listening musics with headphones. The phone also has 72-stage volume control and Bang & Olufsen tuned playback performance. Beside the new sound output features, LG also included a new microphone which supposedly record everything from voice memos to concert recordings without the annoying noises such as clipping.
In terms of cameras, now, you have two cameras on the back instead of the front. V20 has a 5-megapixel f/1.9 on the front and two cameras on the back ( 16MP sensor with f/1.8 aperture and 8MP f/2.8 camera ).
The surprising point of the V20 is the fact that it is the first phone to have Android Nougat out of box. After the public introduction of the new version of Android, Nexus phones were the only ones to have it.
However, do not expect anything close to the stock Android. LG continues to skim the android so heavily that you don’t actually understand you are using Nougat.
