Snapchat is rebranded as “Snap,Inc.” and launches a new sunglass
Today, Snapchat rebranded itself as “Snap,Inc.”, a sign that shows the company wants to go beyond than being completely based on one single app. That is why they also announced Spectacles, a sunglass which records 10 second snippets of video. Even though they still depend on the Snapchat as the Spectacles supposedly is connected with Snapchat, this is their first attempt in making a physical hardware.
For starters, it costs $130 and will be available in sometime this fall. It has a single button to start recording snaps and those snaps will be captured by a 115-degree lens, which is said to be really close to a person’s field of vision. Also, the videos are circular, an effort to create an experience similar to your natural point of view.
Evan Spiegel, CEO of Snap, told WallStreet Journal, “‘When I got the footage back and watched it, I could see my own memory, through my own eyes — it was unbelievable.”
However, don’t expect to Spectacles in every single market because it sounds like United States are focused market, and in any case, it will be produced in limited numbers.
Like the Google Glass though, it aims to be a part of the high-fasion world but it is really sounds like a toy despite its price $130 sunglasses. But we will see if Snap,Inc can be successful with their first hardware.
