Audi’s $1.1 million electric R8 E-Tron is dead

Audi R8 E-Tron was announced last year during the Geneva Motor Show. It was an all-electric version of R8 with a ridiculous price tag of $1.1 million. It was surely overpriced as well as under marketed. However, the german automaker just announced that they are discontinuing the E-Tron version after making less then 100 units.

Maybe, the car wasn’t worth a million dollars, but it was impressive in terms of range and speed. Also, it showed what Audi was capable of.

R8 E-Tron had a range of 279 miles ( 450km ). This is thanks to a 92kWh battery that was in the same size with Audi’s previous battery, but it had a twice as much as capacity. The car was also able to reach 100 km in under 4 seconds. Maybe, it sounds bad when you think of Tesla Model P100. But don’t forget that E-Tron was launched last year, one year before the P100.

Audi also says that the vehicles main purpose has been to make experiments. Even though the car will be discontinued, this shouldn’t stop Audi from making experiments on the car.
