Jaguar I-Pace is an answer to Model X

World is moving towards the electric cars, and obviously, the car makers are trying to get a piece from this growing market. So far, Tesla is the biggest player in this industry with its sedan, Model S, and with its SUV, Model X. However, car manufacturers are not happy for Tesla to rule the electric wheel market. As a result, they are coming up with competing models. This week, Jaguar announced I-Pace, following the massive sales of the F-Pace, as an answer for the Model X.

To start with, I-Pace differs from the current F-Pace is many ways. For example, it is a concept, but its production version will be with us by the end of the 2018. More importantly though, it is an all-electric car.

The announcement of the I-Pace does not mean Jaguar is starting to focus on different things. The british company is known with its luxury cars as well as with its sports car. Well, I-Pace is both.

The car comes with a 90 kWh battery, delivering power to a pair of electric motors. Dual motors make total of 395 horsepower alongside with 516 pound-feet of torque. The result is more than 220 miles of EPA-estimated range, and 0 to 60 mph ( 100 km ) in 4 seconds. Even though it is not as impressive as Tesla Model X, it is a huge improvement after the F-Pace, which ( with the V6 engine ) goes to 60 mph in 5.4 seconds.

However, Jaguar’s purpose is not to make the fastest SUV, instead to make a luxury SUV. Something, Model X is not really good at.

Jaguar I-Pace’s interior actually looks like the interior of the Tesla cars. In other words, there is a plenty of space ( recovered from the removal of the traditional drivetrain systems ) and of course, it is very futuristic. There is a big 12-inch touchscreen in the middle, but not all the settings are moved to the screen. Instead, Jaguar put some switches to the wheel and to the space below the main screen, but they are touch-sensitive.

Nevertheless, Don’t forget that the unit Jaguar showed was a concept. It means when the car will hit the market in 2018, the design as well as the specs might be different. Even though it looks like a great Tesla competitor, Tesla might solve the problems of the Model X in this period, which are the cheap-looking interior for such an expensive car, and its price.
