MacBook Pro is not the new Air
This year, Apple decided to introduce three MacBook Pro models although we were accustomed of seeing two. In the past, Pro lineup was designed specifically for the people endeavoring with programs which are in need of as much power as possibly. With the newest models, Apple is offering something different for those people. Instead of putting much raw power into the machine, they are promising that they can empower those users with the new machine, no matter who are they or which programs they run. That is why Apple came up with TouchBar, a strip of touchscreen with a potential of offering many features to the users without strolling around different menus. However, not every model in the new Pro lineup is coherent with this explanation. The model I am talking about is the entry one without the Touch Bar and Touch ID. The model which suppose to replace the Air lineup. Nevertheless, the question here is whether the entry MacBook Pro can replace the MacBook Air. The answer is simply “no”.
“Pro lineup was designed for the people who use programs which need as much power as possible.”
In order to premediate my assertion about the subject, I am going to confabulate about the fundamental purposes of the MacBook Air lineup. Manifestly, Air laptops were made for normal users who, in many cases, are willing to choose portability in favor of performance. That is the main function and purpose of Air. However, that is not the only reason to explain why you can see many MacBook Airs in public areas. The second reason is its price. Before it was literally replaced by “MacBook Pro”, Air laptops were one of the cheapest Apple computers you could buy. In some cases, you could buy few MacBook Airs instead of one MacBook Pro. This is why the new MacBook Pro can’t replace the Air laptop because it is neither the thinnest and lightest one in Apple’s current catalogue of laptops nor is the cheapest.
“The new MacBook has more potential of replacing the Air series. “
However, when you look at my clarification about the intendment of the MacBook Air, you will discern that the new MacBook ( not the Pro ) has more potential of replacing the Air series.
First of all, Apple appealed to an audience with a need of portable laptop with MacBook Air so did they with the new MacBook. Even though the American company managed to slim down the Pro laptops as well with the new generation, MacBook is thinner than the Pro, even than the new ones.
“Apple appealed to an audience with a need of portable laptop with MacBook Air so did they with the new MacBook.”
Second of all, if you don’t count the 13-inch MacBook Air, which is still being sold by Apple, the cheapest and newest Apple laptop you can get is the MacBook, not the MacBook Pro. Despite the fact that Apple’s new thin and colorful laptop [ MacBook ] starts at over $1,000 ( which is not cheap at all ), they are still cheaper than the new Pro ones which start at either $1500 or $1800 depending on the availability of the Touch Bar.
Besides, MacBook offers less ports and less powerful hardware than the model appealing to the professionals. It is eventually the exact same thing MacBook Air offered at once.
As you can see, MacBook is a better ( or to be more precise, more judicious ) replacement for the MacBook Air whereas the new MacBook Pro is just a successor for the last generation MacBook Pro.
