Apple AirPods | Review
With Apple removing the headphone jack with the iPhone 7, all eyes turned to their wireless headset AirPods. We have experienced the AirPods in our test center and in the real life they make us feel like they are going to disappear every moment.
After a long wait, AirPods, which was finally offered for sale, brought worries from the day it was introduced. We immediately took AirPods to investigate this curiosity. Apple, as one of the first phone makers to give up the headphone jack with the iPhone 7, has drawn attention to itself. Yes, iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus have a headset with a Lightning connection. In addition, you can use your favorite headset with the adapter that converts the Lightning input into a 3.5mm headphone jack which also included in the box. However, with a single Lightning connection, it prevents the phone from charging while listening to music. This caused iPhone users who were using the phone to be very active, unable to reach the end of the day to complain about the situation. As a solution, it is possible to find an adapter that plugs in the single Lightning connector into the headphone jack, but cables annoy people. Apple’s solution to this situation is completely wireless AirPods. Of course, it’s all wireless.
As soon as we opened the package, we compared the box size of the AirPods to the dental floss box. Anyway, it’s so easy to pair an iPhone with AirPods that it’s hard to even describe it as “pairing it”. All you have to do is move the AirPods box closer to your iPhone with the cover open. Instantly, the status of the charge is displayed on the iPhone’s screen with the icons of the AirPods headphones and the box. All you have to do is touch the map button on the iPhone screen. From now on, your AirPods will be paired with your iPhone and you can start to use them instantly. If you are listening to music, the infrared sensors on both headphones will instantly detect when your ear is not in your ear and pause your music. If you do it again, it is detected by the same sensors that your headphones is in your ear, and it goes on pretty quickly from where you left the music, without any hang or waiting. This becomes a very useful feature when you do not notice that there is an earpiece in your ear and there are people trying to talk to you. You can take your momentary earplug and answer it, and then you can continue from where you left your music. But when we take a single headphone out of your ear for a while, we see that the music is paused when you put the headphone back on. Pausing is likely to be related to the battery management.
It is also possible to use the headphones alone. If you want to continue listening to music with a single headset, remove the headset you do not want to use from your ear, put it in the box, then press the repeat button on the iPhone screen or command Siri to play. If you do not put your earbuds in your ear box, the sound continues to come from it. When you put it in your box, the sound on the headset is cut off. This is the Apple W1 chip on AirPods for streamlined use. This chip handles everything from wireless to sound quality and battery management. A wireless headset that was so seamless and easy to connect was not exactly what we expected. We can say that the sound quality is also quite satisfactory. If you are expecting “listening to music” on the road, at work, at school, AirPods will be a very enjoyable headset for you too, but if you are looking for a high quality music experience AirPods may not make you happy. In addition, AirPods does not include noise suppression while listening to music. It is possible to hear outside sounds while listening to music.
The AirPods does not have any keys on them. This causes all controls to be done with Siri. Headphones can detect your touch with your accelerometer located in both earphones while they are in your ear. It is possible to activate Siri by double-tapping both ears. You can also assign the music pause / play function instead of opening Siri for the double tap command, or you can turn this function off. We think you will not close it because Siri is the most indispensable feature of the AirPods. You can do all the operations with Siri, from address search to music change. As you speak, the voice accelerometer allows you to hear what you are talking to and focus on your voice and vibrate to avoid noise with a pair of microphones. The other side of the headset you talk to is not understood. We can say that the noise is almost as good as the iPhone itself during the conversations.
Both headphones provide 5 hours of music playback on a single charge. Obviously the 5 hour battery life for such a small device is quite impressive in our opinions. This owes its impressiveness to the W1 chip, which also provides battery optimization. In addition to being a guardian, it also serves as a charging station to ensure that you do not lose AirPods units over time when you are not using a small white box with a rounded edge much smaller than the wired EarPods box. Thanks to the magnets in the box, the headphones are pulled into the box and are fully seated. This not only gives a nice feeling but also prevents any errors from occurring while charging. We have witnessed situations such as the headset not being charged because we did not sit them properly in the socket when testing wireless headphones from different brands. Such an unpleasant situation suffers from the user experience. AirPods does not allow such a fault.
The charging box with long Lightning cable inside the box gives the AirPods 24 hours of extra battery life. If you leave your headphones in the charging box for 15 minutes, each one has 3 hours battery life. If you want to use one by one, your usage is up to two times. We recommend that you keep your single earpiece open while you are driving or while on the subway when making phone calls or listening to music with a single headset. This way you will be able to use headphones longer and be more alert to potential threats around you.
AirPods can be used not only with the iPhone, but also with Apple Watch, iPad or Mac computers. All you need to do is choose AirPods on your device. It is even possible to use headphones with Apple TV. You can easily use AirPods by pairing them with Apple TV. If you’ve never tried advanced cinematic headphones or you’re not watching multi-action movies, AirPods might be good enough, but if you open a movie full of action, the volume may be low. However, it is worth noting that this is not the case when listening to music from the iPhone, only when the volume is being watched while watching movies from Apple TV. When you want to take a break while watching a movie or series with Apple TV, just take one of your headphones. The video you are watching is still on and the video you are playing back from where you left it. Yes, you don’t need to touch the Apple TV control!
Let’s come to the topic everyone is curious about. Let’s say first. No, we have not been able to lose the headphones yet. Obviously they do not come out so easily from the remote. If you are an EarPods user, there will be no change in your life except to get rid of the cables. But if you have never placed EarPods in your ear, unfortunately your AirPods will not be in your ear. Because, like the EarPods, there is no specific setting for the ears, no headings in different lengths. This is one of the biggest disadvantages of single-head and single-headphones. Many of us were convinced that AirPods sitting comfortably on our ears while on the plane, sleeping, walking or running. But if you lose an AirPod or charger box, you can get each of your lost AirPods for $69 or the charger for $69. If you are an iPhone 7 user who likes music, AirPods is the easiest to use, hassle-free and enjoyable wireless headset option for you.
