Gear S can now work on iOS

Samsung has released iOS app for its Gear wearable accessories. The Gear S iPhone application allows Samsung’s Gear S2 and Gear S3 smart watches and Gear Fit 2 fitness tracker to connect to Apple’s smartphones. Gear devices were only compatible with Android devices before this app was released.

Samsung says it will be possible to download and install apps on smartphones thanks to the Gear S application. There is also the possibility to match health and fitness data with S Health. The Gear Fit iPhone app shows notifications on the iPhone on the device and also matches the health data on S Health.

While new applications bring complete iOS compatibility to Samsung’s wearable devices, they still do not support all of the device’s products. For example, one of the newest wearable Samsung products, such as the IconX wireless headset, is still not officially on iPhone support despite the launch of new applications.

Samsung gave the first sign for iPhone compatibility with Gear products back in 2015, and last year, they officially announced that they would offer iOS support for their wearable products. The company, which launched a beta program for iPhone support in the second half of 2016, announced that it had released its expected applications in the last week, but it has come to the conclusion that Samsung has not finished testing yet.

With the release of the Samsung Gear S iPhone app, the South Korean company’s wearable devices have gained a bit more ground against Apple Watch.
