You can’t use the OIS on the S8

Samsung Galaxy S8 ( OIS )

You can’t use the OIS on the S8

It was clear that Samsung initially wanted to place the fingerprint on the S8 to the front side, but they couldn’t. Therefore, instead of removing it, they just placed it to the back side. However, apparently the only feature Samsung has changed in the Galaxy S8 is not the fingerprint reader. According to some sources, the Samsung Galaxy S8 has a feature that is located on the front camera but is not available.

As is known, most of today’s smartphones feature optical image stabilization in the rear camera. This mechanism allows the camera to move in order to prevent unwanted vibrations in the video. In addition to OIS technology, there is also an EIS technology. While electronic image stabilization technology does not have any hardware mechanism, it can prevent image distortions digitally. Since no additional equipment is needed, the EIS system can be used even in a small camera, but it does not perform as good as the OIS.

According to JerryRigEverything, a YouTube channel that tests phones, Samsung Galaxy S8 has OIS feature on its front camera, but this feature is not actively used. It is thought that Samsung has given up on this feature in the production phase but continued to keep the mechanism on the phone. On the other hand, it is argued that Samsung will be able to activate the OIS feature by publishing a software update in the future, which can be a pleasant surprise for the users. Is Samsung really going to make such a move?
