Apple is making its own chip for AI
Apple is allegedly working on a special artificial intelligence chip that will support artificial intelligence-based functions on mobile devices. According to Bloomberg, this chip, which is likely to be called the Apple Neural Engine, will be tasked with relieving the load on the processor in tasks such as face and speech detection, enhanced reality-based functions that are heavily tied to computer vision. It is reported that this chip will also positively contribute to the overall battery life of the device, and will also have the potential to improve the overall performance of Apple devices.
It is not known yet whether this chip will take place in devices to be released this year. However, it is said that Apple has already begun testing the next generation of iPhone prototypes that house this chip. The ultimate goal will be the separation of tasks from the iPhone’s processor and graphics chip, which have heavy needs in terms of CPU power. Apple has already implemented a similar method using the auxiliary motion processor it uses on its devices. We can also illustrate the W1 chip, which allows AirPods to be easily wirelessly matched to iPhone.
The iPhone manufacturer is generally cautious about providing information about products that will be available in the future. However, the company’s CEO, Tim Cook, describes the increased reality and artificial intelligence over the last few years as two key support points to play an important role in Apple’s future. Both offer driverless automobiles, digital assistants performing more complex tasks, and the way to technology, such as smart image-sensing algorithms that will make the smartphone enough to use in extracting from the outside world.
Although it does not make new announcements about artificial intelligence other than the updates it brings to Apple Siri, the company is continuing to consolidate its industry-leading capabilities under one roof. We are also beginning to see more news about Apple’s investments and moves towards these new technologies. In January, Apple joined a partnership with artificial intelligence company. This partnership, in the form of a research group, was formed in collaboration with other giants of the Silicon Valley; Automation, robotics, and researching the ethical implications of digital intelligence. In addition, Apple has begun allowing artificial intelligence researchers to publish their articles in order to keep the best academics in the field. On the other hand, the company announced in February that it will expand its Seattle office, where most artificial intelligence and self-learning activities are carried out.
