Harman Kardon made a Cortana speaker
Harman Kardon’s new Cortana powered speaker was officially announced. Invoke, which is marked with a small hint during the morning hours, has a 360 degree loudspeaker, support for making calls via Skype, and intelligent home control via voice commands.
In terms of design, Invoke is much like Amazon’s Echo, which is a direct competitor. Both have a cylindrical shape and an aluminum structure. There is a thin ring on the top with a different probe, while the seven microphone array is in the center of the speaker.
Nevertheless, Harman Kardon takes the speaker part of the device more seriously than the Amazon. Invoke has three woofers and three tweeters. Echo has only one of each. The speaker also has the ability to receive Skype calls from smartphones and other devices. This can be regarded as an interesting feature for the home assistant.
Invoke is the first serious step in bringing the skills of Cortana assistant beyond the computers and phones and bringing it into the smart home market. We can witness more announcements about the smart home arena at the Build developer conference to be held in the coming days.
Harman Kardon is expected to release Invoke in the coming autumn. However, the exact release date or price announcement has not yet been made.
