Windows 10 S is here for students

The news that Microsoft is working on a cloud based version of Windows 10 came a while ago. The company has officially announced its version of the Windows 10 S, which is now in its educational focus. With the new version of its operating system, Microsoft responds to Chrome OS.

With the new operating system version, Microsoft is primarily aiming to achieve success in the entry-level device and training market. Terry Myerson, the company’s responsible manager for Windows, said that every application that will run on the S version of the operating system will be downloaded from the Windows Store. This does not mean that desktop applications will not work in the new version. However, its Store requires “packaging and listing” specifically.

During the demonstration on the stage, it was emphasized that the new version, like the standard one, can support accessories and additional devices. Myerson said that it will support all Internet browsers in the new version, including the Google Chrome if it goes into the Windows Store. Despite this hint, it can be said that Microsoft has focused on its Internet browser, Edge, in running training sites and web applications in the new operating system.

With the new operating system version, Microsoft is also changing the process of entry. With Windows 10 S, a student will be able to log into a system in as little as 15 seconds. The company underlines that this is faster than the existing system in Windows 10 Pro. The ability to set up a USB drive with front-configured options is among the platform’s innovations.

Microsoft, which wants to have a say in the education market with its new operating system, is going to cooperate with many device manufacturers in this direction. The devices that have the operating system installed will be on the shelf at the price of $ 189 starting next summer. Purchasers of laptop computers will also be able to subscribe free of charge to Minecraft’s training version. Any school with computers already running Windows 10 Pro will be able to switch to the new one for free. Office 365 will also be available free of charge from the training package that also includes Microsoft Teams. Windows 10 S installed devices will be able to switch to Windows 10 Pro in order to run all desktop applications in the standard format if they wish.
