Features that separate iOS from Android
There are still few days left before the start of the WWDC 2017 event, and rumors and speculations about Apple have begun to increase. Lately, we’ve seen rumors about a smart home device like the Google Home or Amazon Echo, powered by Siri, often circulating around, but let’s not forget that WWDC is a developer activity and we’ll first see announcements and innovations about the software that interest developers. These will be the next generation of iOS.
Like every Worldwide Developers Conference,it is also expected from Apple to introduce the new version of iOS. We will see what Apple will add to iOS 11 from next Monday. But let’s take a look at what we have now, and let’s look at the core features of iOS that are different from other operating systems in all versions up until now.
We need to add “security” to the beginning of the list. Security is at the forefront of the reasons for a user to choose an iPhone or iPad. IOS’s design and infrastructure provide the most advanced security among mobile operating systems. As with the user side, we see the security layer on the application developer side. IOS offers first-class encryption and application transport security tools to help developers develop the most secure applications possible. Security from the hardware to the operating system and from the App Store to the entire system is provided by Apple. In addition, the fact that iOS is entirely under Apple’s control can be considered as one of the most important features of security protection. Content that is not tested in detail by Apple is prevented from entering the system from scratch. Software and coding information is stored in the system because security is kept on the front for application developers.
Apple Mechanics keeps the user experience at the top while providing support for developers to provide best practices to developers as it provides procedural guidance to application developers in both design and content. Applications written for a specific form and system work fluently on all Apple mobile devices. Applications must only comply with Apple’s standard high-strict procedures and can be published to complete the required tests. Through these procedures and the design standards Apple provides to developers, developers devote their time and effort to delivering the best content to their users.
IOS apps and games can only be downloaded from the App Store so that the constantly updated security mechanism allows you to control your applications. Developers are provided with all the necessary tools, including encryption, application transfer security and much more, to protect the personal information shared within the application to develop the most secure applications for users.
- Cloud Storage
Data storage on remote servers instead of devices’ local storage has become an increasingly preferred method. Thanks to iCloud support, which Apple also integrates directly into iOS, it allows user data to be backed up effortlessly on remote servers. You can personally select which applications and data to store via the iCloud settings in the iOS Settings app, which you can access from any iOS device you want or from iCloud.com with all your computers.
- Ease of use
The most positive feature we hear from users of an iPhone or iPad is ease of use. Steve Jobs’ obsession with simplicity has worked for iOS as well as for all the products Apple has produced. The intuitive design makes it easy for users to use an iPhone or iPad with little or no experience in the technology. Elements such as home screen navigation that are scrollable to the left and right, easy-to-read and easily understandable application or game application icons, simple design are all important contributors to iOS’s ease of use.
Apple, the developer of iOS, is also controlling the hardware on the devices that will run this mobile operating system, in fact, it controls the processor itself. When both software and hardware come out of one hand, this leads to more efficient performance results. For example, an iPhone or iPad with only 2 GB of RAM will perform much better than an Android device with more RAM. Apple’s iOS devices generally receive positive feedback on high performance, which is not free. Thanks to the high performance it provides, users can do the same things quickly and at the same time as they want to, because with smooth graphical performance and speed, the user experience is technically supported.
Built-in applications are available on an iOS device that users can easily use within their lifestyle such as Photos, Maps, Messages and Health. And with Apple’s iOS 10, users are starting to see more room for built-in applications. If you do not use the built-in applications that Apple has offered, you can remove them from the home screen.
On the other hand, in terms of main updates, if you look at the Android ecosystem, we see that Google releases the main version in the autumn, and a few months later, perhaps a year or more later, the current Android devices are promoting that new version. Even in most cases, there are situations such as closing the update cycle of devices older than two years old. You’ll understand that when it comes to updates, there’s a slowness and uncertainty in the Android ecosystem.
On the iOS side is a different picture. Of course, the iOS ecosystem is much less in the range of devices than Android, and everything is under Apple’s control. This is the advantage of the users when it comes to updates. Users can get mainstream versions quickly, if desired via wireless. However, backward device compatibility of iOS updates is very broad. We are witnessing some recent updates to iOS getting three, or even almost four, devices.
Siri, which was introduced to iPhone 4s for the first time and started to speak even more languages about two years ago, is considered one of the strongest aspects of iOS. Siri has a high degree of accuracy and, in many cases, fully understands what you are saying, and thanks to its ever-growing talent, it understands what it is up to. With Siri, you can manage your iPhone or iPad without touching it.
With the forthcoming release of iOS, we anticipate that the impact of artificial intelligence and auto-learning technologies will increase further in Siri and that Siri will touch more of my life.
ICloud does not work just to store data or to store backups of devices. The cloud storage service is constantly communicating with Apple’s products. For example, when you promote an AirPods to your iPhone, all other Apple devices connected to the iCloud account are automatically paired with this headphone so you do not have to worry about re-installing it if you want to use it with other devices. On the other hand, thanks to a feature called Handoff, you can, for example, complete the editing of a document you started editing on your iPhone on another Apple device.
