Uber bought Snapchat’s rival
Car sharing giant Uber bought Swipe Labs, which actually a big surprise, who was the developer of the app that competes with Snapchat.
Uber’s motivation in this move is to create a better experience and a stronger interaction between drivers and customers. Marwan Roushdy, the founder of the company, and a dozen engineers he has selected, will now work under the Uber roof to develop Uber’s application interface and build a more social mechanism.
It is not known how much Swipe Labs received in cash, but the value of the company in the last round of funding is $ 54 million. On the other hand, it is emphasized that the American car sharing company does not care about the company’s products and wants to use the company’s engineers to improve their own application. From this point of view, it seems that purchasing it is a complete “acqui-hiring” operation. Acqui-hiring is defined as the purchase of another company and the assignment of its employees to other operations of the parent company, rather than using the products of the company that it buys. It actually sounds a great idea for them as they have only one product which they can improve each time.
